Selection criteria

Each sector rules out materials for a different reason

The same component, in the same size, changes material depending on what will destroy it first. That is the criterion we quote by.

Mining and material handling. The particle decides: coarse impact calls for rubber, fine erosion calls for ceramic. Bare steel is not an option.

Marine, ports and chemicals. Environment outranks load: stainless and FRP where galvanising is consumed in a couple of seasons.

Oil, gas and power. They rule out elastomers and polyethylene, and call for weld neck flanges and spiral wound sealing.

Construction. The material is rarely exotic; the hard part is having it arrive complete the day the work front needs it.
